The Cimetrics B6031, based on the Lantronix XPort, is a physically small BACnet/IP to 4 utility meter interface module that can be built into your product.  It brings data from Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP meters to BACnet/IP networks. Configuration is done over Ethernet through onboard web pages, and can be managed from a remote location. The configuration is simple and the meter interface is up and running in minutes.

The B6031 has over 47 templates of well known BTU, steam or electric meters, from numerous manufacturers, where important registers are pre-mapped to BACnet objects. These permanently available meter templates can be selected during the setup procedure using a drop down menu.

This module is an elongated Ethernet connector which contains a powerful microprocessor with all memory and software required to support connection to a state-of-the-art Building Automation System network. Design your circuit board so this module can fit in and connect to the serial port of your host microprocessor (TTL level RS232).

Most facilities which have a BACnet Building Automation System also have a large number of Modbus meters which need to be attached to the BACnet system. A B6030 can be used to accomplish this goal. A B6031 acts as a Modbus to BACnet interface - taking Modbus register data and exposing it to BACnet. There is no need to spend time picking and choosing registers to expose on each meter; the B6031 already has templates for more than 45 meters -  templates where all important Modbus registers are mapped to BACnet objects. All BACnet objects are meaningfully named and standardized (units, functions) for easier reading and integration into Building Automation System.

Configuration steps include specifying a meter's IP address (if it is TCP/IP meter), meter Modbus ID and template. Configuration can be saved to a text file and then can be reloaded to the device or uploaded to a new device, thus significantly saving time. All the mapping data can be saved to a CSV file and can later be used for analyzing data.

Q:
  1. We have modbus device with RS485 communication, can i use this product to convert modbus to BACnet just by pluging directly on the RS485 (2 wire) port on device and doing some mapping?
  2. We have modbus device with RS232 communication port, can i use this product to convert modbus to BACnet just by pluging directly on the RS232 (3 wire) port on device and doing some mapping?
  3. It will be used for single modbus device to BACnet conversion or if have 4 devices with modbus 485 connected in bus line, is it possible to use this on the RS485 bus and convert to BACnet communication?
  4. Do i need any software to do mapping , is it free ? and support windows 7 OS?
  5. What is the price for single? and for 5 numbers?

A:

A. There is no customer mapping in our devices with built-in templates - B603x.

The templates (the mappings) are built-in. We encourage customers to indicate what Modbus meter they are trying to support, and we can quickly respond with existing support (or whether it is easy/economical to add).

B. Our products are based on Modbus RTU (intrinsic multidrop support for up to four [4] Modbus devices).
C. We do not support RS232 point to point Modbus ASCII off the shelf. We can build a special version for volume orders for Modbus ASCII point to point.
D. Devices to which our modules can connect directly one to one via 3.3V TTL need only RX and TX (and can omit flow control), BUT they must decipher/understand the Modbus RTU bitstream NOT Modbus ASCII bitstream.
E. Customers who desire to do their own loading/mapping can use our devices with loadable templates - B613x.
F. Tools which run under Windows are provided with our full B613x box product (the B6130 product acts as development kit). The tool can be bought independently - for the price of the full box product. The tool is bound to ONE instance of the hardware for creating a loadable image. After creation, the images may be freely loaded to licensed modules. BUT we often recommend that we engineer loadable templates here at Cimetrics, to take into consideration BACnet and Modbus best practices in the mappings. For such engineering we ask for a public Modbus mapping document and customarily a Modbus device/unit to test with and archive (for future support).

G. We offer volume discounts at 10, 100, 1000, etc. units.
H. We are preparing to offer B6x33 units which are B6x30 with BACnet/IP replaced with BACnet MSTP.
We are preparing to offer B6x34 modules which are B6x31 with BACnet/IP replaced with BACnet MSTP.
