BACnet Broadcast Management Device

Collections: BACnet

Category: B3060, BACnet, BBMD

Type: BACnet

  • Acts as a stand alone BACnet Broadcast Management Device. Can be black or silver color

A BBMD relays BACnet/IP broadcast messages within a BACnet/IP network that spans multiple IP subnets.

Does what it is supposed to do...  easy web-based setup and great compatibility.

Customers say..."Cimetrics integration products helped us get our BACnet system working."

    Flow of BACnet/IP broadcast messages

Manage the flow of BACnet/IP broadcast messages within a BACnet/IP network that spans multiple IP subnets

The BBMD directly forwards a BACnet broadcast message initiated by a BACnet/IP device on its subnet to the other subnets with BACnet/IP devices. Upon arrival at a destination subnet, the message is then broadcast on that subnet.

B3060 supports up to 255 BBMDs.

The BACnet BBMD device is optimized for high bandwidth usage due to its 32-bit embedded Linux-based OS and our BACstac/32 protocol stack.  This BACnet software is extremely robust and is the leading third party BACnet code used in thousands of devices from prominent industry manufacturers.

The B3060 is enclosed in a metal case that can be mounted standalone, in a 1U rack shelf or on a DIN rail.

The Ethernet port uses a standard shielded RJ45 connector with integral LEDs. Connection status can quickly be ascertained from the Link and Activity LEDs on each interface.

An embedded web server allows for commissioning and configuration and troubleshooting via a standard web browser. A power LED is present along with the LEDs for interface status on each interface.

  • Manage the flow of BACnet/IP broadcast messages within a BACnet/IP network that spans multiple IP subnets

BACnet utilizes broadcast messages for certain functions, such as when you try to discover BACnet devices.

Routers join IP networks together so messages from one network can be sent to another. If your BACnet devices are interconnected via IP routers then these broadcast messages will, normally, be blocked by the IP router.

To solve this problem BACnet provides a technology called BBMD – BACnet/IP Broadcast Management Device -and Cimetrics developed a stand alone BBMD which serves just this one purpose. It is very simple to use. The user installs B3060 on each network. Then he/she configures the B3060 by specifying the IP Address and mask of each BBMD in the B3060's BBMD table. This makes both BBMD configurations identical. When the one BBMD receives a broadcast, it forwards the messages to the other BBMD which in turn re-broadcasts on the other network. They are configured by BDT files and these may be modified on the fly using selected Bacnet services. The technology also provides for foreign device registration. This allows a device on one network to communicate with a device on another network by using the BBMD to forward and route the messages. B3060 also works with BBMD devices from other vendors.

Product Q&A

Ask a Question
Q: What is the BACnet IP character set that this device uses?

A: The BBMD device only forwards the valid BACnet packets across the IP Subnet and does not check or validate the payload (contents of the packet). Therefore, you need not be concerned about the supported character sets.

Q: Hello, I have a BBMD box (B3060), but it will not activate my configuration. The status in the bottom left corner says

A: Hello, Please save changes and reboot. Upon reboot, your changes must be reflected in your settings.
