The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) has been successful in engaging a wide range of stakeholders in a public process to identify applicable standards, gaps in available standards, and priorities for new standardization activities that support the development of a smarter electrical grid.
ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 135-2010 (BACnet) was recently approved for inclusion within the SGIP's Catalog of Standards, "a compendium of standards and practices considered to be relevant for the development and deployment of a robust, interoperable, and secure Smart Grid." The BACnet network protocol is widely used by modern building automation systems for energy management as well as for environmental control. Building automation systems can contribute to the Smart Grid by enabling applications such as demand response.
Cimetrics has been a strong supporter of BACnet since it was approved as an ASHRAE standard in 1995. Today we are the largest independent supplier of BACnet protocol stacks, BACnet development tools and BACnet integration products to the building automation industry.
