Cimetrics’ metering and energy services are primarily intended for organizations with energy expenditures exceeding $1 million per year.
Case Studies
Read about how Cimetrics has helped several organizations get improved visibility into their consumption of electricity, chilled water, steam, natural gas, and potable water.
Large University: The utilities department at a large university wanted to bring consumption data from existing building-level electric meters into the university’s BACnet-based facility monitoring system. After consulting with our engineering staff, they purchased several Cimetrics B6070s, which are designed to connect to the pulse output of meters and present consumption data in standard BACnet objects. Using university technical staff, the utilities department installed the B6070s and integrated them into their facility monitoring system. The facility operations staff can now use electric consumption data to help them to better operate and maintain their buildings.
Urban Hospital: A large urban hospital had invested in an electrical submetering system for their facilities, but the system was not working reliably. Cimetrics did an assessment of all of the hospital’s utility meters. Following discussions with the hospital’s energy manager, Cimetrics proposed a plan to reconfigure the existing ION™ electric meters to use the Modbus communication protocol, repair faulty meters, add communication interfaces to the water meters and steam meters, and monitor most of the hospital’s meters. Cimetrics was hired to manage the project and to provide the MeterMetrics™ service. The hospital now benefits from near-real-time meter readings and access to historical meter data using standard web browsers, and the hospital has a roadmap for the future expansion of their metering system.
Government Laboratory Building: A GSA-managed laboratory building was using an increasing amount of energy. The GSA’s energy managers contracted with Cimetrics and a service-disabled veteran-owned small business to provide Infometrics™ services and meter monitoring services for the building. The building’s existing electric submeters and addressable switchgear (which have built-in electric meters) use a proprietary communication protocol, so a gateway was installed in order to provide a Modbus interface to the meters for monitoring purposes. Cimetrics recommended a number of changes to the operation of the HVAC system that have already resulted in energy savings that exceed $700,000 per year. The electric metering data has been used to verify that the estimated savings from certain energy efficiency measures has been achieved.
Energy Information Services
Cimetrics offers services to help customers improve their access to information about their consumption of energy. Our customers are typically energy managers at large commercial, industrial, educational or government organizations.
Needs Assessment: We interview your energy management staff to determine your needs. This may be followed by on-site audit of existing metering equipment.
System Design: Our engineering staff can work with you to design an energy information system that meets your needs. A system typically includes meters, communications equipment and software (or software services).
Project Implementation: We can help you implement an energy information system project by providing you with project management and system integration services. These services are only available in certain geographic areas; contact us for details.
MeterMetrics is a web-based meter monitoring service. Cimetrics collects data from your metering equipment, processes the data, and displays the data on a web site that we host. You can download the data for further analysis. Customization is available.

Metering Products
Cimetrics sells metering products that help energy managers and facility managers get access to meter data. These products are usually installed by system integrators and controls contractors. Product configuration and installation assistance is available from Cimetrics.
KYZ Pulse to BACnet (B6070): If you have meters that have (or could have) a KYZ type pulse output, this product will present the cumulative consumption and estimated rate of consumption as standard BACnet objects. For more information, click here.
Modbus to BACnet (B6030): This product makes data from many popular Modbus meters available as standard BACnet objects. For more information, click here.
Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP (B2000): This router will allow you to use Modbus TCP to communicate with almost any meter that has a Modbus RTU interface. For more information, click here.

Energy Monitoring with Cimetrics BACnet Products and Johnson Metasys
Would you like to access and monitor all your meters in one place - in your existing system? Is your existing or future system Johnson Metasys system with BACnet Automation Engine (NAE)? Then you can easily integrate all your energy and pulse meters with Johnson Metasys NAE system using Cimetrics metering products.
To do integration you would need an appropriate Cimetrics E+ series metering device (B6030, B6070 or B2000), and to have NAEs present. The BACnet System Integration feature enables the integration of Cimetrics BACnet into the Metasys system extended architecture. The BACnet System Integration object runs in an NAE (Network Automation Engine). In NAE, with a Web browser as its user interface you can view and command BACnet objects in Cimetrics BACnet devices. Then you can use can use Metasys system applications to create alarming and trending.

After you integrate your meters to BACnet using Cimetrics metering products you can use B6080 to control and monitor your devices without needing to know anything about the BACnet protocol. The Web Services connection conforms to XML/SOAP and WSDL standards which are supported by almost all Enterprise software vendors. To know more click here.

Energy Monitoring with Cimetrics BACnet Products and Siemens Apogee
Would you like to access and monitor all your meters in one place - in your existing system? Is your existing or future system Siemens APOGEE system with BACnet client enabled Apogee workstation? Then you can easily integrate all your energy and pulse meters with Siemens system using Cimetrics metering products.
To do integration you would need an appropriate Cimetrics E+ series metering device (B6030, B6070 or B2000), and to have BACnet Client option installed at the Apogee workstation. You need to upload objects from BACnet devices into the Insight database. It is done in System Profile using BACnet Object Browser. The BACnet Object Browser application searches for devices and their status on a BACnet Internetwork. This is accomplished by using the Send Who-Is and Send Who-Has functions.

Energy Monitoring with Cimetrics BACnet Products and Tridium Jace
Would you like to access and monitor all your meters in one place - in your existing system? Is your existing or future system Tridium System with a Jace controller? Then you can easily integrate all your energy and pulse meters with Tridium Jace system using Cimetrics metering products.
To do integration you would need an appropriate Cimetrics E+ series metering device (B6030, B6070 or B2000), and to have Jace controller present. The Jace box needs to be licensed for BACnet and to have NiagaraAX BACnet driver installed. BACnet Network, ports and LocalDevice need to be configured. If the JACE is connected to the BACnet device network(s), then you can just use online discovery in BACnet Device Manager to accurately populate the station with the BACnet objects from Cimetrics device.
