How do I find the IP Address of my router?
Answer
If you are unable to log in to the router via the web configurator for some reason, and need to know the IP address of your router, please do the following in the exact order
- Install the BAS-o-matic program from the cimetrics web site at www.cimetrics.com/pa
- COmplete the installation and start it up (it will indicate that it is starting in a demo mode and that is fine)
- Now have your router connected to the PC with the BAS-o-matic installed either directly by using a croosover cable or via a hub. If connecting via a hub, please ensure that the router and the PC are the only two plugged in and nothing else.
- From Start | All Programs | Cimetrics | BAS-o-Matic start the BAS-o-matic program.
- Go to File | Start capture
- Click on the Tab called "PACKETS"
- Now, recycle the power on the router
- As soon as the router reboots, you should see some packets being captured in the BAS-o-matic.
- Of the captured packets, locate the one that has a message that says "Who-Is-Router To Network" or the packet that says "I-Am Router To Network"
- ONce you have selected one of the above mentioned packets, check to see its SOURCE IP Address. This is the IP address of the router.
- You can verify this by opening up a command prompt o your machine and pinging the IP address. The ping should get you a response from the router.
