What does the information in "Router Status" mean?

Answer

Once you are logged into the Router via the web configurator, there is a link called "Router Status".

In a situation where you feel that you have configured the router properly but still are not able to see devices that are connected to the router i.e. you have no communications, this link will help troubleshoot the status of the router.

Router Table:

This provides the NIC (Network Interface Card Information), MAC/IP and most importantly the Number of packets each Interface has received and sent.

If the number of packets beig sent or received is zero, this indicates a problem with that particular LAN connected to the router i.e. ARCNET/MSTP/Ethernet/BACnet/IP.

Messages:

If you notice a warning displayed in this section like "Running Router Not Found" this is an indication that one of the Network is not attached. In such a situation, do check that the router is connected to both the networks.

Foreign Device Table:

If you do not have a foreign device, please ignore this section. If you do, verify that the entries displayed here match your actual or intended configuration.

Interfaces:

This shows the two interfaces of the Router.

Since each Interface Transmits and Receives (TX and RX) packets, the details are shown.

If you see that a lot of packets are dropped (either in the TX or RX), this could be an indication of a problem with the router itself.

If you see a lot of Errors either in RX or TX, this indicates that the network cable could be faulty. Pakcets are generally indicated as errors when the router identifies packets with incorrect checksums. Incorrect checksums could be due to noise in cables or other cable related issues.
