How do I configure the BACnet Explorer to act as a BBMD or Foreign Device?
Answer
The Cimetrics BACnet Explorer cannot be configured as a BBMD. This can be configured as a foreign device provided you configure the Cimetrics BACsatc protocol to use BACnet/IP.
In order to change you BACstac protocol to BACnet/IP, please read the FAQ for changing BACnet/Ethernet to BACnet/IP.
Once you have changed your BACstac protocol to use BACnet/IP, please follow the steps below
- For Windows 2000:
- Right click on "My Network Settings" icon located on your desktop and select 'Properties'.
- For Windows XP:
- Double click on "My Network Settings"
- Right click the local area connection |Properties | Select the Cimetrics BACsatc protocol | Properties |
- Once you are in the BACsatc "Port Table" window click on Edit | In the BACnet Port Properties window click on the tab that says "Foreign Device"
- In the Foreign Device Window, - check the check box that says Foreign Device - Fill in the IP address of the remote BBMD that you would want to communicate with - Fill in the UDP port value. If you are not sure of the value, please leave it at the default value of 47808 as this is the recommended port number by the BACnet Standard. - Leave the Time to Live parameter at the default setting of 1800 seconds. Now you can close all the windows and restart the BACnet Explorer. This will connect to the BBMD and you can now communicate with a remote BACnet network.
